Abelmoschus Manihot
(Bele, Edible hibiscus, Tongan spinach, sunset muskmallow, manioc hibiscus)

This perineal shrub is edible, nutritious and easy to plant. Simply stick a bele stalk in soil, ensure some nodes are under the soil, water, and wait for it to root. It can be eaten raw or steamed like kalo, and is used for laulau or like spinach. Bele is reported to be an extremely nutritious super food containing vitamins A and C, iron and some protein. Once classified in the hibiscus family, it has been reclassified to the Abelmoschus genus.
