Family: Arecaceae
Endemic to Fiji, Thurstons fan palm is frequently used for avenue landscaping. The tree grows up to 25 feet with a mature crown width of about 10 feet. Its unique feature is the elegant-looking seed pods extending beyond its crown of leaves. Its native habitat is near the coast and in limestone-based moist forests, so sandy, alkaline soil is preferred but not required. Additionally, slow-release fertilizer is recommended for faster growth.
