Family: Polypodiaceae
Palapalai, a fern native to Hawaii, looks delicate but in reality, it’s a hardy plant. The highly divided pinna gives the plant a lacey appearance. Its gracefully arching fronds grow 2 to 3 feet long. Palapalai grows naturally in shaded wooded areas. In cultivation, it should be kept out of the full sun. Plant in rich soil. Water as needed. It expands by rhizomes.
