Byrsonima crassifolia, commonly known as craboo or golden spoon, is a tropical tree native to a wide region spanning from Mexico through Central America and into much of South America. It is a small to medium-sized tree recognized by its fissured, gray to dark chocolate-colored bark and simple, oval-shaped leaves. Valued for its resilience and utility, it produces edible yellow fruits that are often used locally in juices, jams, and fermented drinks. The tree is also prized as an ornamental, for medicinal purposes, and as a drought-tolerant species suitable for restoration and agroforestry in warm climates.

While not currently classified as a highly invasive species, Byrsonima crassifolia possesses several traits that could pose a risk if introduced to suitable non-native ecosystems. These include its tolerance for varied soils and fire, its ability to produce viable seeds that are dispersed by birds and ants, and its capacity to form a persistent seed bank. Although it is not known to be toxic or to reproduce vegetatively, its environmental adaptability and effective seed dispersal mechanisms suggest it should be planted with caution outside its native range to prevent potential naturalization and competition with local flora.
