- Thrives, and can spread, in regions with tropical climates
- Naturalized on the Hawaiian Islands of Oahu and Hawaii, and Reunion (Mascarene Islands)
- Potential environmental weed in Reunion
- Other Begonia species have become invasive
- Shade tolerant
- Tolerates many soil types
- Reproduces by seeds and vegetatively by stem fragments
- Seeds dispersed by wind, gravity, possibly water and intentionally by people
Low Risk Traits:
- Despite naturalization in the Hawaiian Islands, negative impacts have not been reported
- Unarmed (no spines, thorns or burrs)
- Non-toxic
