- Produces abundant seeds that can spread beyond planting areas
- Fast growth rate that allows it to establish quickly in favorable conditions
- Tolerant of a range of soil types once established
- Widely cultivated ornamental, increasing opportunities for escape from landscapes
- Member of a genus that includes several known invasive species in Hawaiʻi and other tropical regions
Low Risk Traits:
- Not currently documented as aggressively invasive in Hawaiʻi
- Generally requires full sun and managed landscapes for best performance
- Limited evidence of forming dense, self-sustaining stands in natural areas
- Primarily spreads by seed rather than vegetative reproduction
- Often planted intentionally and maintained as an ornamental tree
