- Thrives in tropical climates
- Species is widely naturalized, including all main Hawaiian Islands. Red ti may not be as widely distributed

- Reproduces by seeds and vegetatively by rhizomes
- Seeds dispersed by birds, water and intentionally by people
- Able to resprout after cutting
Low Risk Traits:
- No reports of damage to native ecosystems or vegetation
- Unarmed (no spines, thorns, or burrs)
- Provides fodder for livestock
- Ornamental
- Largely self-incompatible
