Eucalyptus nicholii (narrow-leaf black peppermint, willow peppermint) is a small to medium sized tree native to New South Wales. The tree is used as an ornamental in southeastern Australia for its dense, attractive foliage. It is also a popular tree for interior design due to its low maintenance requirements. This plant has not been documented as naturalized in any Hawaiian Islands to date.
High Risk Traits:
- Casual (naturalizing) in New Zealand
- Other Eucalyptus species are invasive
- Unpalatable to deer
- Tolerates many soil types
- Reproduces by seeds
- Seeds dispersed by wind, gravity, and intentionally by people
- Able to coppice and resprout after cutting
Low Risk Traits:
- No reports of negative impacts where cultivated
- Unarmed (no spines, thorns, or burrs)
- Palatable to grazing stock
- Not reported to spread vegetatively
