High Risk Traits:
- Naturalized on O'ahu, South Florida and other tropical regions
- Congeneric weeds exist in the genus Solanum
- Toxic to humans (all parts except fruit)
- Hybridizes with other Solanum species
- Self-compatible (autogamous)
- Annual life cycle (reproduces within one year)
- Widely cultivated and spread intentionally by humans
Low Risk Traits:
- Highly domesticated (large fruits limit dispersal)
- Not a significant agricultural or environmental weed
- Narrow climate tolerance (sensitive to frost, heat, cold)
- Not shade tolerant
- Limited soil tolerance (prefers fertile, well-drained soils)
- Few dispersal mechanisms (no wind, bird, or external animal dispersal)
- No coppicing or fire resistance
