Family: Cyperaceae
O’ahu sedge will grow 1 to 2.5 feet tall with a spread of 2 feet or more. They are long-lived (more than 5 years) and generally planted in clumps. It is often planted as an accent and is excellent for low-maintenance landscapes or dry areas of the island. This plant produces brownish, green, red, or yellow flowers with no fragrance, and it blooms year-round.
Ants, scale, thrips, mealybugs, and aphids could be problematic, although O’ahu sedge tends to be pest-resistant if appropriately maintained.
