Family: Araliaceae
ʻOhe makai is a medium-sized tree with a rounded crown. Native to the dry lowland forests of Hawaiʻi, ʻohe makai is wind tolerant and dry adapted. Not an evergreen, ʻohe makai loses its leaves in the summer. Don’t be alarmed when your cultivated plants do that! Cease fertilizing and watering it until the end of summer. In general, ʻohe makai is a low maintenance tree.
