Family: Rubiaceae
An ever-blooming shrub that boasts bright orange and red flowers. Butterflies are attracted to the many blossoms. Its flowers have no fragrance, despite the species name odorata. It is native to Cuba and Panama, hence the common name Fragrant Panama Rose. A utility friendly, fast-growing plant, it won’t reach much more than 6 feet. The unobtrusive roots make it an excellent choice near homes, buildings, and sidewalks. It grows well as a container plant as well. It thrives best with full sun, moderate watering, and well-drained soil. This is a low maintenance, drought-tolerant plant that drops little to no leaf litter.
