Akulikuli is a succulent, low-growing herbaceous plant that flowers year-round. It needs full sun to thrive. Overwatering will encourage pests. However, it tolerates inundation from water, both salty and fresh. All parts of the plant are edible. Because it is quite salty, here is a recipe that uses salt as an advantage. The flowers are used in lei. However because the flowers are so tiny, the process is laborious. Medicinally, akulikuli has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Cultivate native akulikuli in rock gardens or as container plants.
