ʻUhaloa has wooly leaves and is a small shrub commonly found in anthropogenic places in Hawaiʻi such as in abandoned areas, paved sidewalks, and schoolyards. The velvety leaves look silver and flowers are yellow. This plant was used by Hawaiians as medicine for sore throats, asthma, colds, and as a painkiller. It is known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. This groundcover or accent shrub tolerates drought conditions and poor soils.
